Ages ago when I was young and hopeful, I worked in music event organising and journalism – interviewing bands on and off camera (mostly for the free drinks and boys). During which, through my sort-of-boss/drinking partner, I met Brett Jefferson Scott who organised interactive photo treasure hunts through the streets of London. (I met him when I helped organise a club night at Cargo to celebrate the end of one of his treasure hunt events – just for clarity of understanding). I haven’t seem or heard of him in years but I’ve recently learnt that he’s still doing his thing!

His brainchild had grown from ‘Shoot Shoreditch’ (obviously this is where something like this would be born) to ‘Shoot London’ (natural progression) and is now ‘Shoot experience‘ (I do like the new double meaning).

The event basically encourages people to run around a certain area (or city) finding objects, getting drunk, having fun and unleashing their inner Mario Testino to create beautiful and interesting photographs with the stuff they find. Also, if your photos are really good or something you can win stuff! SPRING BREAK!!!

My brother bought me Tim Walker’s Pictures for my birthday (after I emailed him the above amazon link daily for 3 months). It is the most wonderful book EVER.

It will make you happy. FACT.

quentin jones

London based Quentin Jones works as a painter, illustrator, animator and all round artiste extraordinaire. Quentin’s work reflects a keen interest in female imagery: from the glamourised form to the unsightly flesh. It is the kind of – often gruesome – art one would expect from a man (and yes, ‘Quentin’ as a name makes this even more plausible) (and yes I only linked man for that wonderful wiki picture of a ‘man’).

But Quentin is all woman (no wiki link, the picture is simply an ancient sculpture. BORING). For the past ten years Jones has worked as a model and her experiences in the form and figure obsessed fashion industry have clearly informed and influenced her work.

Yes, so Quentin is awesome. And I’m not the only one that thinks so. Her work is currently on display at Aubin & Wills (Jack Will’s cute offspring) in West London (until 1 November). Additionally, E. Tautz recently commissioned Quentin to compose a short animated film to showcase their Spring/Summer 2010 Collection – which was then presented at their Savile Row showroom. I tried to upload it but the file was too big so take a look on the Dazed&Confused site instead. It’s very English.

Look, basically I can’t find a suitable picture on google. Stupid google. So close your eyes for a second or two and just remember what everyone looked like last time you got yourself down to a British beach. Fat, pale and far too naked. Right? Right? Yep ok.

SO I absolutely adore the British Library. I spent much time there as a student especially whilst writing my dissertation (truthfully I spent most of my time there looking for cute boys. I figured it would be a good place to find a boyfriend, since if they were there they were already smart. No luck, sadly.) (Oh I do miss being a student.)

The image above (of Hastings beach, fyi) will be one of more than 250 rarely seen photographs to be exhibited at the British Library’s first major photographic exhibition EVER. Points of View: Capturing the 19th Century in Photographs will run from 30 October to 7 March 2010. I’m quite excited.

Bring on the cute, smart boys.

On another less disgusting note, Bobby Baker’s exhibition ‘Diary Drawings’ was just wonderful – in an immensely depressing sort of way . For the last 11 years, she has kept a ‘diary’ of her mental health status in watercolours. And her mental status has not been great…
