In our kitchen we have a tape player. In our house we only have one tape – the soundtrack to The Little Mermaid. On a not entirely unrelated note, fandubs of Disney songs are a resource of amazingness I wasn’t previously aware of. That’s all changed now, though, and I have spent the past while enjoying various translations of ‘Kiss the Girl’ in one browser window, while doing some research on the Austrian hotness that is Christoph Waltz in the other. Disney and Nazis. Nice.

It’s hard to pick a favourite but how can you fail to be charmed by a Icelandic man singing as a crab singing in a reggae style?

I thought I would never watch Inglourious Basterds because of the extra ‘u’ and Brad Pitt’s bizarre overacting in the trailer (like I am determined never to watch Sweeney Todd. Sometimes I feel like the only girl in the world who neither finds Johnny Depp attractive nor a particularly amazing actor), but then I realised that he’s not in it much and instead there are lots of attractive German men in it (Michael Fassbender is half German, also counts). So now I’m watching it with a hangover and will rate it solely on the mens. Currently considering watching it on mute.

2002. The year you could watch MTV Base for two hours and the Neptunes would have produced every single track you saw (I know you can’t see a song, but they didn’t produce the videos and… although I suppose if you had synaesthesia you could possibly be said to… never mind, you know what I mean). It was also my last summer of underage dancing in terrible clubs to all the hits from 2000-02 while wearing undoubtedly hideous clothes. I remember Fabolous and Gravel Pit and Big Pimpin’ and Ginuwine and Nappy Roots and Nelly and B2K and I could go on ad infinitum because I pretty much love all hip-hop and r’n'b except for emo rappers, Eminem and Asher Roth.

I think I danced particularly badly but joyfully to this.

“Ass is fat, frame is little, tattoo in your chest with his name in the middle.” I will still be able to quote that line when I am in an old person’s home. And I will, frequently and loudly at anyone that happens to walk past me.

2002 was also the year that I met Tim Westwood when I lost my hat on the street and he called me ‘little lady’. That was a crap story, I’m sorry.

And the P-Rod/Koston Nike SB ad that wisely uses this is pretty cute, maybe even enough for me to forgive them for the run of ugly new releases that have been offending my eyes recently (I’m looking at you, Dunk Low Asparagus).

Claude Francois IS the discotheque, and his snake-hips are the light-up dancefloor. Sadly his amazing dancing didn’t mean he had the smarts not to change a lightbulb standing in a half-full bathtub. But that’s no reason not to watch every video of him dancing you possibly can. If I walked into a club full of cute French boys dancing like CloClo I would be in heaven. Okay, they don’t have to be French. Any boys! Just no girls.

Although are you sure this is legal, CloClo? I don’t know if Chris Hansen would approve.

Sweaters We Wish Had Been (Undone) combines three of my favourite things – musicians, tenuous puns and knitwear. Some of the choices are uninspired, but there are some delights, like Lionel’s lurex mix, two JTs (James Taylor in neutral perfection and Timberlake’s white rollneck) and Elton’s dangerously strokeable sweater.

Fierce.

Here, Boyz II Men have quite rightly been given a sartorial award for contributions to co-ordination, and wearing the hell out of that purple. And yellow. And… fuchsia? Speaking of Chuck Bass, I thought I was dreaming when I saw the GG episode where he sported the chunky knit with a fish on it. Visual pun knitwear is the future.

Next we have what was probably one of the items on my 6th birthday wishlist. Actually, two items – the sweater and Jordan Knight.

Be still my beating heart. Wait, is that a rattail? In addition to the shaved line and hi-top fade? JK, you are spoiling us.
